A Month of Earrings… (Day 24)

Another recent purchase, I bought these earrings at the last Dar es Salaam Artisan’s Market. When I saw the bright colors, I knew they were perfect! Maybe these could be classified as “hippie earrings” too?

14 Days…

With just two weeks until I land in the U.S. of A., here is a Buzzfeed-style list of fourteen things I’m looking forward to during this this summer visit home (in no particular order). 1. Family!   2. Being at Wallen Baptist Church. 3. Riding my Specialized Tarmac on flat, smooth roads.   4. Eating Tostitos corn…

A Month of Earrings… (Day 23)

As I was getting dressed this morning, I realized that I have no red earrings. What? How can that even be possible? So instead of wearing classy red earrings with my black and red dress, I chose to go with the zebra stripes. Also classy. 🙂 These were another Wal-Mart purchase, I believe. Or possibly Glitter —…

A Month of Earrings… (Day 22)

This picture makes these earrings look deceptively small. In reality, they are nearly 9 inches long! I haven’t worn them in awhile, but I’m not sure why. These used to be my go-to earrings for almost any occasion. I mean, how can you go wrong with super-long earrings and feathers???

A Month of Earrings… (Day 21)

These earrings also came from Colorado, as a gift from my parents. Until I started doing this series on earrings, I had no idea just how many of my earrings had been from Colorado. So far, I’ve already posted about three different pairs from there…and I know of at least one other pair. Crazy! But its…

A Month of Earrings… (Day 20)

These simple yet elegant earrings were one of my very first pairs. They were a gift during a Christmas gift exchange my first year at the School of Discipleship. I think I wore them everywhere for the next few months–church, dinners, parties, etc. I still love to pull them out for any semi-formal occasion where…

Street Children & Football: Faith Filled Friday Link-up

All year, Dan Kappers and I have been co-teaching the grade 9 Service Learning class at HOPAC. Throughout the course of the year, students researched and wrote about problems in Tanzania and their possible solutions. As a culminating project, students split into groups to write two more specific research papers on problems they saw in…

A Month of Earrings… (Day 19)

Like yesterday’s Tanzanian-colored earrings, these earrings are great representations of the Masaai beadwork. Christine, a co-worker, Canadian, and dear friend, gave me these earrings as a Christmas present this year. She is so, so generous, and just a lovely person. I love all of the bright colors, which makes them seem so much more “African”!

A Month of Earrings… (Day 18)

Proudly displaying the Tanzanian national colors, these earrings were a purchase in Zanzibar. Despite really loving the look, I rarely wear these earrings, perhaps because they best match my Tanzania football jersey, which I only wear during sports–not a good time to be wearing dangly earrings! I may have to rethink that, and pull these…

A Month of Earrings… (Day 17)

I recently purchased these earrings at the Dar es Salaam Artisan’s Market. They were handmade by Tanzanians working with Nuru Center, a NGO/ministry employing individuals with disabilities. The artisans working at Nuru Center create beautiful jewelry, banana-leaf cards, and other artwork. I own several items that they have designed, including a banana-leaf plaque of Africa and multiple…
